LOS ANGELES- Legendary musician Tom Waits toured recently, but fans in his old hometown were out of luck--all the dates were in the South. So Esotouric, the bus adventure company whose offbeat tours expose LA's secret history, launched a new tour just to scratch that gravelly voiced itch.

CRAWLING DOWN CAHUENGA: TOM WAITS' LOS ANGELES debuted in August 2008 with a sold out tour, and repeats on February 28. It is the definitive tour of Tom Waits' formative creative life and the people, places and late night pastries that shaped it.

Calling all rain dogs, gin-soaked boys and Gun Street girls! Climb aboard as your hosts David Smay (author of the new 33 1/3 series book on "Swordfishtrombones") and Esotouric's Kim Cooper (a Zoetrope Studios intern who'll tell how she used teenage subterfuge to arrange a private concert by Tom) lead you on a scrupulously researched ride through Tom's epic misdeeds and shenanigans, from the Trashing of the Troubadour to epic nights at the Tropicana.

And oh, there are such tales to tell, from food fights with L.A. Punks and smackdowns with L.A. Police. We'll crawl through the Sewers of Paris, tattle on the Ivar Theater, and get the lowdown on Tom's legendary performances at the Wiltern and elsewhere. Before departing for points rural, Tom left his mark all over L.A., from Francis Ford Coppola's Zoetrope Studios to Sunset Sound to Skid Row. We'll show you where Tom found his true love and collaborator, Kathleen Brennan, and how all the pieces came together to transform a drunken, desperate singer into the multi-faceted, multi-media artist he'd become.

Raised near San Diego, Tom Waits launched his musical career in L.A., signing with David Geffen's Asylum Records in 1972, living at the raunchy Tropicana Hotel (where he sawed off the kitchen drain board so his piano would fit), and building a reputation as a songwriter willing to risk his own health and sanity to get inside the sad sack characters that peopled songs like "The Piano Has Been Drinking (Not Me)," "On The Nickel" and "Pasties And A G-string (At The Two O'clock Club)."

By 1980, Tom was 31 and starting to feel the effects of his hard living. While scoring the music to Francis Ford Coppola's "One From The Heart," he met Kathleen Brennan, whose influence would completely transform his life and his art. After a whirlwind courtship the pair married and began a 28-year creative and personal partnership, beginning with the revolutionary album "Swordfishtrombones," the subject of tour host David Smay's new book.

As a symbolic passage from lonesome bar hopping to family joys and sobriety, the tour starts and ends at two important downtown sites. Passengers gather in the King Edward Saloon, the last surviving Skid Row bar with the Christmas 2007 loss of Craby Joe's, before boarding Esotouric's luxury coach class bus, where the mood is set with vintage photos and live footage. CRAWLING DOWN CAHUENGA spans Tom's personal city, from The Nickel (aka Skid Row) to once-ratty West Hollywood, favorite strip clubs and midnight diners, recording studios, night clubs, record labels and film studios, before rolling back downtown for a communal snack at Clifton's Cafeteria.

ABOUT THE HOSTS: Longtime collaborators David Smay and Kim Cooper co-edited the books "Bubblegum Music is the Naked Truth" ("quite simply the most fun music book I have ever read." -Bucketfull of Brains) and "Lost in the Grooves: Scram's Capricious Guide to the Music You Missed" ("the perfect book for the advanced record collector" -Ear Candy) before penning their solo 33 1/3 series books on Tom Waits and Neutral Milk Hotel. Kim gives Esotouric's rock history and true crime tours. David Smay lives in San Francisco, where he is working on a history of the Beats.

amazing, with acres of art installations, theme-campery, and plenty of
friends, old and new.

The big news this year is... Decompression is in a new location! Huge
thanks to the Planning Team for pulling this off; we're gathering at
the Los Angeles State Historical Park, AKA the Cornfield, this year.
It's still downtown, and the directions are below.
Be prepared to get your shoes dusty! The Cornfield is really a field,
and the dust definitely kicks up while dancing.
One important note: The Decompression parking lot will be closing
after the event, around midnight, so park mindfully, and make sure to
read the parking notes if you are planning to attend an afterparty.

6th ANNUAL LOS ANGELES DECOMPRESSION STREET FAIR:

Time is fast approaching for the annual Los Angeles Decompression party!
We have had more submissions for Art, Camps, Installations, stages,
and performers than EVER BEFORE!. You guys rock!

Before we get to the list everyone is dying to see, a few things.

First, the event will be held in a BRAND NEW location this year. No
more partying on the streets, now we have acres of beautiful lawn all
with the amazing view of downtown we have always had.

The location is at:
Los Angeles State Historical Park
1245 N. Spring Street, 90012

We are very grateful to the State Park Rangers for allowing us to use
their wonderful location. When you see them around, tell them thanks!
They have been truly great to work with.

Time: The festivities will start at Noon and end at Midnight.
Cost: Admission to the event may be gained thusly:

$10 in costume or with a Metro Rail pass!
$20 in street clothes.
(Children under 12 are FREE!)

There will be alcohol available on site this year as well as food.
You are welcome to bring your own food, but we can not allow alcohol
in the park outside of the approved areas, so please do not bring it.
We are being asked to check for alcohol and weapons as you enter.
Please be prepared for this at the gate so we can keep the line
moving.

Parking:
On Site and Secure Parking available at the North end of the park off
Baker for $10, so please CARPOOL. Or ride the Metro Rail Gold Line to
the China Town exit and enter at the South end of the park off Spring
St. If you have never availed yourself of LA's great light rail
system, it's fast, safe, and easy. You'll see.

VOLUNTEER! It is not too late, and we certainly need you! Email

participate! Have time Friday, the day of the event or Sunday? Let us
know!

We are a No Glow Stick event. In keeping with our green initiatives,
we ask that you leave the glow sticks at home. They only fill up our
landfills with materials that never decompose. Instead, bring
reusable lights, like LEDs or EL Wire.

For the first time we will have a chapel. You too can get married at

Decompression! Whether for real or just to your Playa partner, you
can make the moment last a lifetime.

All exotic animals on our planet are under threat of extinction because of loss of habitat due to pollution, global warming, and human population growth. Fragile ecosystems are in serious peril all over the world and will pay a heavy price from the increased storms, floods, and coastal erosion that global warming will produce.

So, who are the critters that will survive the coming catastrophe? They will be the ones that are able to live with or near humans, can live in an urban or semi-urban environment, and use human garbage as a food source. These are the "Animals of the Future". They include raccoons, opossums, rats, roaches, crows, coyotes, squirrels, sparrows, pigeons, deer, seagulls, lizards, rabbits, skunk, chipmunks, mice, feral cats, stray dogs, and many other species.

The pieces in this show will highlight and tribute these overlooked noble survivors that live sometimes literally in our own backyards. The pieces are sculptural in nature and are made out of mostly recycled elements but also include exotic materials, and lighting.

LA City Voters - Vote “NO” on Prop S – It’s Really a Tax Hike

On election day, this coming Tuesday, February 5th, you will not only be able to vote in the presidential primary, but you will also have an opportunity to vote on certain ballot issues. If you live in the City of Los Angeles, one of the ballot issues is Proposition S, and I urge you to vote NO. This ballot proposal is deceptively billed as a tax reduction, but in reality would expand taxes on telecommunication services and open the door to taxing of your internet services. Don’t let the politicians get away with this deception. It is critical that this proposition be defeated, so please vote NO and email this information to everyone who could potentially vote in Los Angeles. We need your help to get the word out. Please take a moment to read and another few moments to act. YOU can make a difference.

Here’s the Facts

1. Prop S would RAISE your taxes, not lower them.
Prop S would ratify tax hikes City Hall made illegally in the past. City Hall adopted certain taxes on cell phones and land lines without voters' approval, which is illegal under our state constitution and which has been struck down by two court decisions. If Prop S passes, those taxes would stay in force, and would drop from 10% to 9% -- but if Prop S fails, those taxes would disappear altogether, so they would go from 10% to ZERO percent. When coming up with the plan to have voters validate their illegal tax hike through Prop S, Mayor Villaraigosa persuaded council members to seek a 9% tax - just so they could bill it as a tax cut. That's what's so sneaky about Prop S!

Prop S would also impose a BRAND NEW TAX on DSL, wireless, text-messaging, instant-messaging, VoIP and other "new" communications services. The new tax could cover everything from a land-line telephone call to a photograph sent from a cell-phone camera to a text message sent via BlackBerry. And, it’s possible that if Prop S is approved, in the future, the city could impose other taxes on your basic internet access without getting any voter approval.

2. Prop S is unfair.
Prop S would tax YOU at 9%, but telemarketers would pay only 5%. Plus, the L.A. Times and other newspapers and radio stations would pay NO tax on cellular, wireless and internet services.

3. Prop S is unnecessary.
Despite the scare tactics, you can be sure that essential services won’t be cut if Prop S fails. Mayor Villaraigosa has repeatedly said he would protect the Los Angeles Police Department from cuts and press on with the goal of adding 1,000 officers by 2010.
Furthermore, the City of L.A. has higher taxes than any city in the county, and already takes in more revenues than ever in its history: $6.7 billion per year. Even if we repealed all cell phone and land line taxes, and hired 1,000 new police officers, the city's tax revenues would still be 21% higher than they were in 2004-05.

Meanwhile, City Hall wastes YOUR tax money on hundreds of millions of dollars per year on subsidies to downtown developers and on other wasteful spending. For example,
there are only 15 City Council members, but 108 city owned and paid-for cars assigned to those council members' offices. That’s over 7 cars per council member. In addition, $66 million in taxpayer subsidies will go to the out-of-state developers of the Grand Avenue luxury shopping and hotel project downtown and $270 million in tax breaks — the very amount city officials cite as the upcoming budget shortfall — is going to AEG, which developed the ritzy L.A. Live entertainment venue downtown. These are just a few examples of how LA government wastes your tax dollars. So why should you pay higher taxes while the special interests get perks and big tax breaks?
And to add insult to injury, the City is squandering $5.1 million to put Prop S on the ballot as a special election when they could have saved that money and just added Prop S to the next regular municipal election. But that’s not until April of 2009. Apparently, the City Council just can’t wait to get its hands on your hard earned dollars.
Other cities thrive with no phone taxes. Did you know that Beverly Hills, Thousand Oaks and San Diego have no phone tax? The same goes for Atlanta, Boston, and Philadelphia. As for cities that do impose phone taxes, New York’s tax is just 2.4%; Long Beach and Las Vegas charge 5%; and Burbank and Portland charge 7%. So why must we pay 9%?
Prop S is a big rip-off. Vote no, and PLEASE email everyone you know who lives in Los Angeles and tell them to do the same. The special interests behind Prop S have put up $2.3 million for a misleading advertising campaign. We taxpayers, by contrast, have to let one another know. We need to get the word out or the deceptive title and wording of Prop S will probably lead many uninformed voters to vote yes and that means higher taxes for us all.

My friend Karen who owns Café Buna is providing 150 meals for this event. I am now hoping to supply clean clothes and shoes in good condition. The push is also on to provide 150 Do Something Kits.

Your continued donations of these items provide homeless people in the Los Angeles Area the opportunity to keep themselves clean and groomed. It has been our experience that this greatly contributes to the likelihood of someone getting a job and become self-sufficient.

The best place to get these items is from the 99 cent store or from the 99 cent area of all Target store.

Im planning to return to LA hopefully on the 31st, give or take a few days. Maybe much sooner if you need that. I left over a year ago to reconnect with family in North Carolina. My visual portfolio and new album are finished plus i have several employment offers so id love a return to the big city. My resume is included below and i have a diverse set of skills, all of which i invest time in developing.
Im serious about this even selling my burning man ticket(boohoo) to make sure im focused and thoroughly funded.

Personally, i love to eat healthy/live healthy. I dont smoke, drink, or watch TV & Dont judge anyone who does either. My personal enjoyment comes from nature spots like the beach & the canyons, open mics, and community service events.

I want to document the birds and other wildlife in Echo park. Do you want to help me? I need a digital camera or a person with a digital camera.
I need a book on california birds . I am contacting the Echo park parks and rec assocaition. Maybe we can get funding.
I want to get a plaque type thing, or maybe it's called a photo box and put the pics and a small description of the bird or turtle or fish in it.
I saw a blue heron today, it was awesome. Not a giant blue heron, a small short blue heron. And there are new ducklings, so cute.

hello, i am experimenting with public space and improv, here is the project i am working on, either come and join in or let's just meet and talk sometime.....

Improvising Democracy

Finding a Voice....
Listening to the Body, Re-inventing Public Space.

There are times when what needs to be spoken cannot be done with words. Finding a voice is a process...meanwhile we do have these bodies that often speak for us...
Call it body language or maybe, "starting a movement", there's an immediate ability through movement to communicate with and even change our surroundings, our worlds...
Whether or not you're an improviser, artist or some kind of social creative, you're invited to this series of investigations and experiments in how we communicate, move in and otherwise use Public Space....

Downtown Los Angeles will be the place, during the week of 21st May, for some research and re-discovery of space, place and maybe, the democratic muse?
We start with a warm up and then simply build with whatever improvisational movement/dance and other inspirations come to us (maybe sound, text, theatre...interaction with other creative citizen passers-by?) in a re-creation of public space in the City.
Our first public space exploration begins 4pm, Monday the 21st of May in front of City Hall (W. Temple and Nth Spring st. end of the building). Follow up events/actions/performances will be arranged and announced during the week as we continue to develop our ideas.
If you have some thoughts about public improvisation that you'd like to propose or collaborate in some other way, please contact me at mishek@gmail.com. For those interested some studio time and space can also hopefully be arranged to explore our group collaborations and ideas in a more contained venue.

Room to Move and Play....

How and where do we make room for who and what we need to be in this world? How do we create Space for ourselves? Places to be heard? Places we might claim for a time? Space to take action? What is within our power to change? Where should we be drawing the line between Public and Personal?
How conscious (and unconscious) are we of the public spaces that we continually pass through each and every day of our lives? Are they simply thoroughfares, or the potential for much more?
What's the purpose of a public square, a park, a lobby, foyer, atrium or other gathering place if we do not only gather, but do not SEE each other? If we are not using the space to it's full potential to bring out our social imagination, to 'speak what is important' to us...to re-create ourselves and expand the potential of the social mind?
It's time to re-imagine the use of Public Space.
....It may begin with a movement, some physical contact, a sound, maybe vocal expression, maybe a conversation or dialogue...
....we move, change and evolve the space as we are moved and others move us...

I live in the Metropolitan Apartments at 950 S. Flower.
I witnessed the following Saturday evening, March 3, between approximately 6:30 and 7 pm, but have not seen anything of it in the LA Times or Downtown News.

As I was a witness, I feel compelled to provide some account of the passing of one in despair, whose last act has so embedded itself in my consciousness.

There is a lot of construction going on in downtown Los Angeles, where I live. From my window, I can see five or six cranes at various sites, including one directly across the street from me, with an arm that extends out over the parking lot/construction site perhaps 20 stories up.

Saturday night I was out on my balcony with a beer watching the lights and traffic moving toward Staples Center. Police cars arrived and began to close Flower Street between Ninth and Olympic, the stretch of Flower that is directly under me, five floors down.

Flares were lit and when paramedics arrived I was still slow to put two and two together, thinking that maybe a VIP was moving through with an escort or maybe they were setting up for the LA marathon, to be run Sunday. I was unsure.

Until the spotlights began to climb the crane and then out along the arm, and a helicopter circled the area.

I called my girlfriend to let her know I thought maybe someone was up there.

A woman on the street said "don't do it."

I followed the lights as they ran up and down the long arm of the crane, then looked down for a moment, then right back up when the same voice said "oh my god."

I looked up in time to see him falling through space end over end, silent as a thought. The eye cannot place the act, not right away; there is no reference; the image confuses briefly. But as quickly one knows what will happen soon enough.

He landed in the construction area on perhaps the only square of asphalt not covered with equipment or stacks of wood or anything. I wondered if he'd marked his spot, if he knew exactly what he was doing, if he'd worked there, if this, if that.

The sound was like a bomb. I was surprised how loud the landing was. And at how the dust rose up like drapes above his body, slow to settle, like a dirt cloud laying someone to rest before it settled upon him like a paper thin burial sheet.

A few times Saturday night I woke with that image in mind, the man who seemed unusually large to me - I actually thought it as he fell: he's big - falling through the night like a man who'd jumped from a crane.

I have never felt the kind of sadness I have felt since Saturday night, as if in witnessing the act, some molecular despair had found me through the air and run my bloodstream to the brain and found a place from which to touch me with something that is otherwise too far removed to be noticed.

2007: The Vibration of the Year for the Spiritual Other

Weaving is one of my favorite words. It evokes a sense of a pattern, of energies flowing in and out, twining together to create a tapestry, an image and in our case a vibration or tone.

Each year I send my senses inward to find my personal message, what it is that is coming to me in this time, what I have begun, what I am beginning and what is ending, to get a flavor, an essence of that which I have helped in the making for myself.

I think, I feel, that Others, the spiritual Other, those that bring their own path into being, be they artist, healer, mother or brother, have a tone as well and I am here to bring this message; not as an authority but as a speaker. I hope you can add your voice and your thoughts about this energy as well.

Otherhoodlight, as I have said, is going through some changes, and this year the awakening of the concept of this vibration that is weaving together for all of us, is a beginning.

You will also find a monthly, new moon, posting, narrating some of the energies that I perceive are present in our vibrational fields, universal beams of change, cause, effect, contemplation and action.

Eyes closed, sense open, feelers traveling out into the world, sensing the Spiritual Other, I perceive the Web of Light and it feels to say, "Weaving."

This year of 2007, there is a call for community action. That may be coming together in groups or with like-minded friends. This strengthens the energy that we have personally, building on our power base, and it also empowers us collectively by increasing the number of us that are resonating with the healing and creative vibrations that we all tap into. Regardless of our faith, our practice or our belief, this is a strong time of collective power.

Spend some time meditating on your inner self, your core and following this, focus on the greater creative source. Spend time seeking answers which lead to new paths to others and Others so that you can find where the creative force within you is guiding you. It may be artistic pursuits, music or spending more time with your family and finding the essence of that love and passion there.

Meet with Others, with your contemporaries, students and teachers, share your vision, your ideas, and learn and grow together. In this way, you are weaving that personal vision into the greater vision. You are connecting intimately with that internal source and then sharing it, affirming your inner connections, stimulating your mind and finding fulfillment in the things that call you to joy. This then links you with others, Others, who are seeking and doing the same. It builds up our diverse community of many peoples, who's diversity is our beauty and our connections internally and externally, our strength.

Pink and Green. Colors are important to vibration, they are the light reflected, abstracted into a visual form that we all can perceive. They carry the power of the energy through representation and through resonance. These two particular colors respectively represent peace and understanding, and, growth and new life that is healthy and strong. They represent our peaceful and accepting nature opening to the new growth we are resonating with.

Wearing these colors, in our clothing, our jewelry, even using them in our projects, paintings, even using them in our energy work (our use of the Life Force Energy through our Will) and visualizations with events, people, places and concepts will have a remarkable effect on our world. Affirming the tone.

Roses and Blessings. Choose a rose this year because it represents the peace of the blessings of the power that we will all be working with. The rose may be yellow, pink, red, or even blue or purple… the color has a personal significance to how you will be working with the energy. As it is, the rose is the image of the gift we are helping to transmit.

Blessings have a whole lot to do with gratitude.

When we are in a place of feeling grateful for what we have, and not focusing on what we want or do not have, then we have lost the blessing way. When we enter a state of meditation or prayer, even when we go into the creative process, we find the center within that already has the abundance we are seeking… when we cannot, when we come from fear, lack, loss or sorrow, from the "I NEED" place, we help to create these things, rather than the happiness we are seeking to expand.

Our world has turned into a strange direction in the last four or five years. We've lost the Rose of Blessing, and if we want to help change the events around us in our world, if we want to activate the healing on a larger scale, if we want our messages and insights to reach a greater community -and it needs to!- we need to find the place of gratitude again.

Find the Divine Feminine. There is much to be found in our female nature, women AND men. This does not equate to forsaking any other divinity that you have but instead asks for you to find your nurturing, caring, protective, receptive and feminine attributes as they will help you in receiving and then translating the vibration of the year. If you are Catholic, find Mary; Should you be Pagan, seek the Goddess or the Earth Mother. It may be that your very own female relatives represent that wholly female beauty and feminine abundance.

Not the Surges in Power. The wax and wane, the rise and fall, the light to darkness to light transitions. The feminine is about change, transformation, and the immortal nature of the invisible-yet-tangible nature within us. These are hidden gifts here that will emerge. Tools and methods that will assist you throughout the year will emerge that you had not noticed within yourself.

These messages can come to us at any time, it is true, but when the vibration rises as it is now, it is important to find this wave as it rises so that you can activate the frequency and the nature that arises from it. Not only are you moving into living life in the natural cycle but you are also taking the opportunity to find, to rediscover the beauty that you may have not seen within yourself, or others, before.

It is time to make change, to consciously move our lives and by cause and effect, shape the life of the world around us by helping to introduce greater amounts of this energy into it.

Remember that this is just as important for the world as it is for you as a conscious, living human being. Your gifts and talents should flow into your life: your home, your relationships, your work, shopping, bathing, eating, disagreementsand mmisunderstandingsIf the vibration doesn't apply here, it will never apply in the world and so will have no effect. In short it is a wasted gift and a vain pursuit because you have done nothing with it.

I want to personally remind you regardless of any path or religion, that you follow, to be conscious of your breathing, your diet, how active you are and in the way you interact with others. We are all becoming, we are all living, and all things aside, it is up to us, each of us, to make this a better place for all. Conscious living is living awake, it isn't necessarily easy or hard, but it is a way which opens us up to the potential to be our potential. Do you see?

An Invitation To All Creative people

There is a new "organization" in town: The Ministry of Culture.
A group of Artists and creative individuals who have dedicated dacades to the cultural scene in Los Angeles and abroad have formed a new venue where everybody can have a voice in the way we shape our culture. This announcement is meant to spread the word!

The way we see it, when we first hear the phrase “ministry of culture”, we see a foreboding state department structure or building that is the gatekeeper of all art that is acceptable and non decadent, perhaps cultural expression that fortifies the state position against it’s opposition, say running dogs of Yankee imperialism, or the axis of evil; jingoism for all.

Well, we certainly need to change that perception don’t we? We are also struck by the idea that a ministry is a pulpit, from the rank lunatic on a wooden box in Times Square to the cathedrals of excess that remove all doubt God is good, God is great, God is a capitalist.

No. Not what we have in mind either. Although we are concerned with lifting your spirits, we hardly have interest in your religion. It is fairly clear that there is some sort of smart ass liberal bent to our position, not devoid of a deeper, more serious meaning.

Thus in defining who we are, we start with who we are not. For the agents of the Big Department of Governmental Watch Dogging, we are not terrorists, we do not promote violence, unless it is beating piñatas, which we consider very serious ritual, and we love the place in which we live, so much that we are willing to protect it against the stupidity of its current government. We are the rebel protectoriants of the stupiditiness of governmentalisticalism.

To the ultra paranoid left, we are not agents of the military industrial fascist complex, parading as saboteurs but drawing out enemies of the state into exposed e-mail trees.

In the old days, the wise fool kept his head despite mocking the king because he was quick witted albeit lightly regarded, creative, and kinda funny looking. That is more like us. Bear in mind the issue at hand is serious, the most non humanitarian concept of our United States policy since the omission of slaves and women as citizens in the initial Constitution, the internment of Americans based on ethnicity, the – well, it’s up there, this wall, this fence, pean to the last vestiges of just us justice and good old days gone.

The key to understanding who we are, is to regard Culture as the most important word in our self appellation, and to see Ministry as a verb. We have decided upon mockery as the weapon of mass disrespect, and ridicule as the method for true democratic transition. At this point I should qualify that my partner, the Minister of Culture to the Ministry of Culture, well, we don’t agree on every thing including even the Manifesto to the Great Wall of Chinga. Isn’t that just like a bunch of quasi-intellectual Bohemians in Black?

In the Jewish faith, there is purposeful ongoing review and debate of canon and law, with participants willfully taking up positions of advocacy and contradiction for the purpose of testing the truth of the law. We gladly steal this concept and apply it to our own identity.

The Ministry of Culture is not defined by this indulgent narrative, it is defined by who participates and what is reflected in creative dissertation and dissent that is called for from this point forward. We are not smart enough to completely define the Ministry of Culture, we need your participation. In that sense, the Ministry of Culture is fluid, we are willing to go with the flow, open the floodgates but let the water take its course. It is the desire of the Minister of Culture, (I think, for he is so moody), and the Architect of Folly, (today, because he changes his mind more often than his underoos) that we throw open to the bully pulpit, vox populi, and creative forces, the opportunity to create art and culture; a forum by which who we are and what we do becomes what is our Ministry of Culture.

A Time 4 Hemp yahoo group has been deleated...

...by Yahoo! it seems...I loged on a day or so ago and it had been deleated. I contacted Yahoo's office and was informed that - yes, Yahoo closed the group - and if they ever answer my e-mail...maybe someday, I will find out why? Was it censorship???? I have started a new Yahoo Group - have posted some video clips, photos and after I post this message to a few group sites, will start to add messages to my message board.

I had important news item dating all the way back to the year I founded the ATime4Hemp Yahoo groop...the year 2000. Neary 1,200 messages had been archived on the site for people to wade through should they need to find information on Hemp Studies - or locate links....whatever.

I'm mad. Mad enough to start a new group and ask that the Hemp Movement join it and help to make it bigger and better than the one that was deleated.

Open Call for Photo Submission: My L.A. Pic
This call goes out to everybody in Los Angeles. We want your digital photographs of Los Angeles for My L.A. Pic project to be included in the upcoming exhibit L.A. 225 which will be held at the Pico House Gallery to commemorate the 225th birthday of Los Angeles in September of 2006.
The objective of My L.A. Pic is to create a digital photographic presentation of Los Angeles’ neighborhoods as seen through the eyes of the people who live there. Show your side of L.A. that people wouldn’t normally see. You do not have to be an artist or photographer to participate.
There is NO entry fee and the youth are encouraged to participate. We also encourage Los Angeles organizations to share this information with their members. Photographs selected to be included in the exhibit are the sole discretion of the project’s organizers.

Photo Submission Guidelines

Number of Submissions Accepted: Each person may submit one digital photograph which must have been taken within the city of Los Angeles.
The following information must be included in the submission:
1-Where was the photo shot? Use nearest intersection. Example: Wilshire & Western.
2-When was the photo taken? Example: Aug.1.2006
3-What is the photographer’s first and last name?
4- What is the photographer’s age? Example: Age: 22

All photos must be:
Original: Photos submitted must have been taken by the person submitting, and may not be a reproduction of another image. Images that might infringe on copyright, trademark or that promote a commercial product will not be selected.
Family friendly: All photos must be suitable for viewing by general public, this includes children. Any photo deemed inappropriate will not be selected.

Size: All photos must be in JPEG (.jpg) format at 72 dpi. The dimensions may not be larger than 720 and smaller than 160 pixels. If this all sounds too complicated, don’t despair. It’s actually quite simple. You can even do it online for free. Just use your favorite browser and search for keywords like “resize photo”. An Iraq War Memorial

Imagine a photograph of more than 2,400 Americans strewn across a vast, desiccated expanse of desert. Know War is an ambitious non-profit project that aims to depict the human cost of the Iraq War by transforming the casualty number into a visible reality. This undertaking by renowned photographer, Zach Gold, will create an image that makes death come to life.

Know War intends to raise continued public awareness by enabling people to visually understand the American death toll. There has been overwhelmingly positive response so far, including veterans associations across the country, necessary vendors to execute a project of this size, as well as many individual volunteers. Dialogue has also begun with high-level advertising executives to aid in creating an ongoing public campaign. But Know War needs more help. We seek subjects for the photograph, volunteers to assist in organizing, food vendors, and everyone who stands for an end to this war.

The shoot date for this project is June 3, 2006 from 2pm - 6pm, the location is Mystery Mesa, Santa Clarita, California. Both a 30-second Public Service Announcement and a documentary will be developed in tandem with the photo shoot.

District Safety

Hi Folks-
i live on South Flower in South Park District. Has anyone witnessed these guy's lame behavior as they "patrol" in downtown. I have a homeless friend that's been harassed and thrown in jail at least 5 times for the crime of not having ( photo identification ).

What is this: Natzi Germany?!! These guys are acting like wannabe stormtroopers on bikes. My neighbor was mugged and they did nothing to help him. They didn't think he lived here and just stood there asking him what he was doing in this part of town, as he layed there on the ground trying to find the tooth that was just punched out of his jaw.

It will only get worse if we do nothing about this; any suggestions?

THE LA DERBY DOLLS NEED YOUR HELP – TONIGHT!

The Derby Dolls have a team of skaters trained, packed and ready to
head out to Texas to play our first ever inter-league bout against the
TXRD Lonestar Rollergirls (of A&E "Rollergirls fame). We are set to
leave this Sunday and skate this game during the South by Southwest
music festival, however, because our supporting sponsor cancelled at
the last minute, this historic bout is in danger of being cancelled.

The Dolls are determined to get to Texas, but we need a little help
from our friends. And we need it, well, now! We are asking, no,
begging you to drop what you're doing tonight and come out to our last
minute GUERILLA FUNDRAISER at Bar 107 in Downtown Los Angeles. For a
donation of $5, you can groove to the sounds of 3 DJs – Leopold
Dynamite, Zofisto and Stewart Bading Patterson. The back bar will be
manned by Derby Dolls, so you can have your drinks slung full-contact
derby-style. Yeah, that's right – you can get your drink and your
dance on AND help your LA Derby Dolls get to Texas. Not a bad way to
spend a Friday night.

Grab your friends and come out to Bar 107 tonight! Music starts
`round 9pm. You will have a blast and we will be eternally grateful!
